What is the Clinic:

    • The FIU College of Law Small Business Legal Clinic provides free assistance to small businesses and nonprofits.  The Clinic provides services ONLY to permanent residents of the State of Florida

    Cost:

    • The services are free except for a one-time administrative fee of $25 (the payment is made on-line with a credit card following the initial interview)

    Who Provides the Service:

    • The assistance is provided by 3rd year law students working under the close supervision of an experienced attorney

    Becoming a Client  

    • To be elibible for assistance a client must be a resident of the State of Florida.  To apply send an email to the Clinic's Director (John Little) at johnlittle@fiuclinic.org -  In the message briefly describe the legal assistance that you need.  Include your telephone number.  Someone will then contact you to learn more about the assistance you are requesting  The Clinic reserves the right to decline particular requests for services.

    • Note on Litigation:  The Clinic does not represent clients in litigation nor does it assist clients in resolving disputes that might end in litigation.

    • The Clinic, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to decline providing requested assistance

    Supervision

    • Each participating student attends a weekly supervision session an experienced attorney.  These weekly sessions typically last for an hour and a half.  The purpose is to monitor progress being made on each of that student's open files and to brainstorm how best to complete the remaining assistance that has been requested by each client.  All substantive emails, letters and documents must first be approved by the supervisor before being sent to a client.

    • The Clinic is located at the FIU College of Law on the first floor on the south side of the building. The law school is on FIU's main campus in SW Miami-Dade County.  CLICK HERE for a map showing the location of the law school.  Communications with Florida residents living outside of Miami-Dade and Broward Counties can be accomplished using Zoom or telephone calls.
