In the summer of 1999 graduate students at the University of Miami's Center for Urban and Community Design and the School of Architecture engaged in a design studio. The focus of the studio was on the production of generic strategies for the reconstitution of the American city. The reality of the proposals were tested on the 79th Street Corridor, The studio was taught by professor Jaime Correa. The students focused on three key development sites in the 79th Street Corridor redevelopment district: the Amtrak/MetroRail/Tri-Rail site, the 79th Street Mall (and Northside MetroRail station), and the Northside Shopping Center.
