Registering a Copyright

• On-line Copyright Registration Link


• CLICK HERE to go to the log-in page at the Electronic Copyright Office ("eCO") website - once there click the link to register as a new user.  Then proceed to complete the application (first read the "tutorials" and "how to's" below)


• The final step in creating the on-line application (as listed in the left margin of the application page) is "Review Submission". After reviewing for correctness click the "Save" button.  Then, before sending an email to the client deliverying the link to the application page and the username and password email that user name and password to your supervisor so that he can review the completed application.


• Two Types of Applications


• Single Application


• The "Single Application" is a simplified registration procedure that can be used for individual authors/claimants registering a single (one) work that is not a work made "for hire". Must be a single work (e.g., one song, one poem, one photograph) does not include collective works, unpublished collections, units of publication, group registrations, databases, or websites.

• Filing the Copyright Application:


• It is the client and NOT the Small Bussiness Clinic that will actually file the application


• Log on to eCO (using the above link) and create a username and password for the specifc client.


• Then log on and create teh on-line application.  Make sure to first have a "hard copy" of the work that is being registered (which will be uploaded into the application
