The Story of East Little Havana CDC

The main goal of East Little Havana Community Development Corporation (ELHCDC)
since its inception has been to revitalize low-income neighborhoods (with a particular emphasis on East Little Havana) and engages in commercial and residential development ventures.

ELHCDC accomplishes this through commercial development ventures, supportive services, and affordable housing projects and programs.

ELHCDC was incorporated in 1984 primarily to serve primarily the East Little Havana neighborhood which has Miami's highest concentration of persons under the poverty level. In 1993 the Corporation expanded its service boundaries to serve residents of various other low income neighborhoods in Miami-Dade County.

The organization has made great strides in creating jobs, rehabilitating commercial facilities, providing services, and building affordable housing. ELHCDC helps residents and businessowners participate in and benefit from the revitalization of the East Little Havana area, thereby stabilizing the community.

The demand for affordable housing in the area is great. ELHCDC's waiting list for homeownership and rental units totals more than 500 families. In its efforts to ensure that adequate and affordable housing is available and that children have a stable home in which to grow, ELHCDC has developed several housing projects including and to provide decent affordable housing to the community around it.
